Xavier Lucas, a four-star signee in the Wisconsin football program’s 2024 recruiting class, recently raised eyebrows after a strong performance in the 100-meter dash.

The American Heritage High School standout took to social media after recording a 10.49, a new personal best.

Lucas has gotten quicker since his junior year, where he posted 100-meter dash times of 10.99, 10.99, 11.06, and 11.32, according to Athletic.net. It’s worth noting that Lucas’ time is the same time that former Badgers star running back Jonathan Taylor posted in high school.

Lucas announced his commitment to Wisconsin in August after fielding offers from Alabama, Michigan, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Purdue, and many others. UW was able to stave off a late push from Miami, where Lucas made multiple unofficial visits and an official in the weeks leading up to National Signing Day.

The Fort Lauderdale native finished as the No. 369 player in the nation, the No. 35 safety, and the No. 52 player in Florida after the final 2024 recruiting rankings update. He soared up the rankings after a solid senior season at American Heritage High School, where he recorded 26 tackles and four interceptions per MaxPreps

Lucas will head to Madison in the near future as a part of a two-man safety class with three-star signee Raphael Dunn. The 6-foot, 185-pound safety will bring some versatility to the secondary with his experience as a nickelback, and his blazing speed will help give him a leg up at the next level.

The Wisconsin football program’s 2024 safety room will include Hunter Wohler, Preston Zachmann, Austin Brown, Owen Arnett, Braedyn Moore, Justin Taylor, Xavier Lucas, and Raphael Dunn.
